Finally tried the much-hyped SHIN UDON in Japan and, honestly, the wait was real! 🇯🇵
Visited in December 2023, endured a 3-hour wait – 2 hours virtually and 1 hour in person. Initial step: register your email for a queue number; they call you back as you approach your turn. Then, brace for the final wait in the physical queue to enter the restaurant.
Tip: Arrive 30 mins early before they open to get a queue number and explore the area while you wait! The wait did not feel that long for me as I had time to visit the Tsukiji Fish Market with the virtual queue number.
✨Highlights:
⚫️Carbonara Udon- perfectly balanced flavours, though a bit on the salty side and the Bacon tempura was MIND-BLOWING!
⚫️Cheese Tempura - melty but a bit dry with the tempura batter.
⚫️Nagamo Cold Udon - wasn't my thing due to the cold and slimy texture of seaweed. BUTTTTTT the ⚫️Assortment of Tempura - stole the show with the juicy shrimp, fresh veggies and crispy and light tempura batter!
Overall rating, a solid 8/10. This was not the best meal for me in Japan, but oh-so-memorable! Miss that Carbonara Udon already OMG 🥹 If you're in Tokyo, give it a shot! No time for the queue? Opt for delivery or takeout. 🍜✨
