Udon restaurants in Japan often pair their noodles with tempura and Shin Udon is no exception.
We got there ๐ด๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ผ๐ ๐๐, ๐ช๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ผ๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐ช๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ป๐๐๐๐๐๐.

This dish is something Iโd get at any udon restaurant I visit and I gotta say, it was good but didnโt blow my mind. The seasoned cod roe is an umami bomb, paired with the seaweed and raw egg, i ascended to Mentaiko heaven with every mouthful.
Secondly, their famous ๐๐๐ซ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐๐จ๐ง features a slab of ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฐ๐ธ ๐ฐ๐๐ ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ฒ๐บ๐ฝ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ ๐ฎ๐น๐น ๐๐ถ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ฝ ๐ฎ ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ต๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ-๐ฝ๐๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ฑ๐ผ๐ป ๐ป๐ผ๐ผ๐ฑ๐น๐ฒ๐ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ผ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐๐ถ๐๐ต ๐ฎ ๐ฐ๐๐ฏ๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฏ๐๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ, ๐ฎ ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฒ๐ด๐ด ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฎ ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฎ๐บ๐ผ๐๐ป๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ฝ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐บ๐ฒ๐๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ. Iโve seen this dish on several tables and knew that I couldnโt give it a miss. The golden tempura crust paired with the beautiful shiny noodles looked amazing side by side. The raw egg and cream sauce base helped to cut the richness of the salty bacon tempura. Unfortunately, the parmesan cheese topping overpowered the dish where the taste of the cheese was too compelling.
The udon in both dishes were delightfully springy and tasted fresh like it was made in-house. We even got a seat at the bar counter which gave us front row seats to the tempura chef at work.
Unfortunately, the popular ๐๐ก๐๐๐ฌ๐ ๐๐๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ didnโt live up to its expectations. While the cheese was melty, this was pretty one dimensional to me. For about $7, you can give this a miss.
The tightly packed eatery also gave me a sense of claustrophobia and it was difficult to move anywhere without brushing shoulders with a stranger.
In all, a nice udon place and Iโd get the traditional menu items to try again if the wait isnโt as long as before as 6 hours is definitely too long a wait. We spoke to some locals in the queue who shared our sentiments; That there are similar quality udon places with none of the queue!
