Hello Zesties 🍋
Never thought I would be posting about this 🥹
I am sure many of you have similar experience as me growing up with a typical Asian mom.
How to qualify as a typical Asian Mom
1. Always say No to your request
2. They own at least 2 cane 🥹
3. They give birth to you, you are theirs
4. Shout across the house
5. Calls you 123456789 times a day
6. “You never drink water, that’s why you are sick”
There are many things that I am very grateful for / towards my mom. But there are many times during my youth I actually loathe her.
My mother is the kindest to EVERYONE ELSE 🤣 but to me, we were always fighting & quarreling when I was young. Instead of her comparing me to other kids, I compare myself to other kids. Because my mom was so strict, I couldn’t even hang out with my neighbors at times. My curfew during secondary school was at 4pm 🥹 and most of the time, I would get cane if I disobey her. There was so many things that I didnt get to do with my friends too because I wasn’t allowed to go out most of the time. My friends would be able to stay out late, and stay over while I had to go home early at 3/4pm. Sometimes I would call my dad to see if I can stay out late and I could go home at 7pm 🤣
But I realize that, the stricter my parents are, the more rebellious I become and I became more distant away from them because I hated the fact that they say No to all my request and I had to plead for them to say Yes.
I had to lie my way through my youth which I discourage you to do the same because it does strain the relationship. But of cos, I still love my mom at the end of the day, and we are still on good terms but looking back, I still wish for a better and happier childhood.
P.S Don’t misunderstand, my mom has always supported me throughout my entire life, but the strictness & everything else had me tied up and I felt like I could’t breathe.
If you ever feel like how I feel, I’m sorry that you had to go through this too. ❤️ Maybe I’ll post more on what I went through? 🤧
Thank you for reading ✨
