Pre-req courses needed for med school

The medical school application process is a lengthy process to say the least. You need hours of clinical, non-clinical, volunteer, and/or shadowing experiences, good grade, good MCAT, good LOR, and a strong personal statement.

A major portion of your application is completed in college: pre-req courses!

While schools tends to vary on the exact courses they require for applicants, there are a few that are the same across schools:

1 year of biology + lab

1 year of organic chemistry + lab

1 year of general chemistry + lab

1 year of physics + lab

1 semester of biochemistry +/- lab

1 year or 1 semester of math (calculus and/or statistics)

Extra courses that some schools may require:

Sociology and/or Psychology

1 year of English

It is important for you to do your research early on in college on the courses required by medical school and have a plan of the courses you have to take.
