What kind of student SHOULDNT APPLY to med school

Everyone always talks about how you need to be super smart and super compassionate in order to do well in medical school and while I agree that you need some level of intelligence and empathy, there’s one character trait that isn’t talked about enough.

It’s discipline.

You can be the smartest person in the world and the most empathetic but if you lack discipline, or lack a desire to learn how to be more disciplined, then med school will be 100000x times harder for you.

Notice how I am not saying motivation because that is different from discipline. Motivation comes and goes, it’s just a feeling. Sometimes you might feel motivated to study but on the days that you aren’t, that’s where discipline comes in!

You don’t need to come into medical school already fully disciplined but a willingness to learn and adapt along the way is definitely needed. This is a long and hard journey so having that will definitely help.
