My doctor recommended the IUD as a treatment and reassured me that it would be quick and only slightly uncomfortable. But what happened was far from that.

When it was time to place the IUD, I wasn’t even nervous. But as soon as the procedure started, I felt like a knife was being stabbed inside me. The pain was horrible. The nurse tried to comfort me, but I was in so much agony. By the time it was over, I was dizzy, shaking from the trauma, and so thankful my husband was there to drive me home. I couldn’t stop crying—it was that awful.

I was told the pain would last only 24 hours, but when I woke up the next day, it was even worse. I had nausea and unbearable pain. On the third day, I called my doctor and was told to go to the ER because I should have been fine by then. At the ER, they did a sonogram and found out the IUD had moved, causing even more pain. I had it removed the next day.

If you need a contraceptive, please don’t get the IUD. I would recommend considering options like the implant or the pill instead. They should warn women about the potential pain and provide anesthesia. No one should have to go through what I did.
