How to make Japanese-styled Chilled Tofu? Super nice, tastes like ice cream.
Ingredients:
• 1 block of silken tofu (about 300g)
• 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
• 1 tablespoon of mirin (sweet rice wine)
• 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
• 1 green onion, finely chopped
• 1 piece of ginger (about 1 inch), grated
• Bonito flakes (optional)
• Shiso leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Tofu:
• Carefully remove the tofu from its packaging. Since silken tofu is very delicate, handle it gently to avoid breaking.
• Place the tofu on a plate and let it chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can use it at room temperature if you prefer.
2. Make the Sauce:
• In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, mirin, and sesame oil. Stir well until fully combined.
3. Serve:
• Take the chilled tofu out of the refrigerator. Drain any excess water by gently tilting the plate.
• Pour the sauce mixture over the tofu.
• Top the tofu with the chopped green onion and grated ginger. If you like, you can also add bonito flakes and shiso leaves for an extra burst of flavor and a more authentic presentation.
4. Enjoy:
• Serve immediately with a pair of chopsticks. Japanese-style chilled tofu is best enjoyed as a refreshing appetizer or a light, healthy dish.
This dish celebrates the simplicity and elegance of Japanese cuisine, focusing on the subtle flavors and textures of its ingredients. Enjoy your meal!
