Muji Modular Boxes - Worth It? (5 Year Review)

Most of our home furnishing is either from IKEA or Muji. We’re sure many new homeowners will be looking at these two big names too, so here are mini-reviews of some products we own from these two brands.

Today, we take a look at Muji’s Polypropylene storage boxes.

We don’t have much clothes, so we decided not to have built-in carpentry for our wardrobe. Instead, we went for an unorthodox solution, using Muji’s PP boxes as our wardrobe drawers.

❓Why we chose it

We had an odd little nook in our bedroom, and wanted to find a modular, lightweight storage solution that would fit nicely into the space.

💚 Likes

⦿ Having different widths to choose from means that we were able to find the ideal combination of drawers to fit nicely into the odd nook in our bedroom, where other fixed options wouldn’t.

⦿ Different height options: we wanted shallow drawers as we organize and fold clothes in the Konmari style. At the same time, we needed taller drawers for thicker clothing. With different height options, we could customize it to our needs.

⦿ Grows with your needs: we started with three levels and bought a couple more boxes afterwards to make it four levels when we realized we needed more space. Being modular, adding or reducing storage space is a seamless process.

⦿ Lightweight: easy to move around when necessary.

💔 Dislikes (for wardrobe use)

⦿ There are no stoppers. If you carelessly pull it out far enough, the entire drawer may fall out accidentally.

⦿ Because of how light it is, there’s a limit to how far you can pull out the drawer before the weight of the clothes cause it to tilt over.

⦿ Yellows over time. It’s plastic after all.

Most of the dislikes are probably unavoidable for what it is, and we got used to them after some time. However, if you’re fussy about keep things looking pristine, then you’ll have to consider whether you can accept that it’s made of plastic that would yellow over time.
