Muji Bean Bag - Worth It? (5 Year Review)

Most of our home furnishing is either from IKEA or Muji. We’re sure many new homeowners will be looking at these two big names too, so here are mini-reviews of some products we own from these two brands.

We knew we didn’t want a “normal” bulky couch in our home, but still wanted something comfortable for the two of us to lounge in. So, we got two Muji bean bags instead and have been happily using them for the past 5 years.

🟡 Pros:

⦿ Not as bulky as a normal sofa, but just as comfortable in our opinion. Makes the living room look bigger.

⦿ Movable. We’re always moving the bean bags around, depending on where we want to relax. That’s not something that can be done with a couch.

⦿ Covers can be removed and washed for hygiene…

⦿ …which also means you can switch up the colors to match your home decor.

🟡 Cons:

⦿ As with all bean bags, they will compress and feel less plump with use. But comparatively, Muji’s bean bags come denser out of the box than regular bean bags and don’t suffer from this problem as much.

⦿ The polyester sides of the bean bag trap heat, and you may find that it can get sweaty after a while.

⦿ Not suitable for elderly. Our parents enjoy sitting on the bean bags, but have a hard time getting back up 😅

⦿ Not cheap. When we got the bean bags, there was a big sale going on, so we actually don’t remember it being this expensive!

✍️ Conclusion:

For our flexible living space, we’ll get bean bags over normal sofas any time. For more conventional homes, bean bags could be a good supplementary seating option rather than a replacement for sofas.
