Feel-good books that comfort me! 🥹✨

With work being more stressful these days, I find myself reaching out for books that bring me comfort. As much as I like mystery, thriller or action-packed stories, I really enjoy reading feel-good books. #bookrecommendation

If you are looking for some feel-good reads, here are my recent favourites:

📖 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐛𝐲 𝐏𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐲 𝐌𝐢𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧

✒️ 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬: It’s a story about the joy of pursuing dreams at any age. Maggie is a retiree who, after travelling the world and returning home, decided that she’s ready to chase her young adult dream of being a chef. While the job market isn’t what she remembers it to be, an opportunity comes to her in the form of her favourite local restaurant in dire need of help. 🥘

💭 𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: This is such a beautiful, heartwarming and comforting book. 🤗 It makes me feel so hopeful about growing old and somehow less scared of life? I know it’s fiction, but it nudges me to look at what I really want in life and not be scared of going for it no matter how old I am. 🥹

📖 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐚 𝐛𝐲 𝐓.𝐉. 𝐊𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐞

✒️ 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬: Linus is a caseworker from the Department in Charge of Magical Youths, and he’s tasked to investigate orphanages that house magical children and write reports to encourage continuation/discontinuation of these homes. He lives life following rules and routines - work and home alone to his cat, but his world changes when he’s assigned to Marsyas Island Orphanages.

💭 𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: This book is so magical. 🥹✨While the book discusses difficult issues like prejudice, stereotypes and discrimination, it contains so much love, kindness and acceptance. It teaches us to love despite our preconceived idea. I enjoy the little bits of wisdom written throughout the book and for me, it feels like a soft, warm blanket on a cold rainy night. 💖

📖 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐚 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐛𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐖𝐨𝐨𝐝

✒️ 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬: A story about second-chances, unlikely friendships and the power of stories. Harriet runs a bookclub in prison, Violet serves 22-months in prison after a car accident, and Frank is a handyman at a bookstore in Portland, where the three of them met and they realised how intertwined their lives are.

💭 𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: Life is hard, life is unfair, but life can also be really, really good. This book makes me want to join a book club or run one for that matter. It reminds me that humans are flawed, but we are doing the best we can even with all our regrets, sadness, and choices we made. It’s so hopeful, so beautiful and I honestly don’t want it to end. 🥹

📖 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐚 𝐋𝐞𝐚 𝐛𝐲 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐢 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐲

✒️ 𝐒𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐬: Hazel and her sister, Flora, were children involved in Operation Pied Piper during World War II and during those difficult times, Hazel created a fairytale land called Whisperwood to comfort her sister. Life was alright until Flora disappeared and Whisperwood forgotten. 20 years later, Hazel saw a book about Whisperwood and began her journey in finding the truth of her sister’s disappearance.

💭 𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: This is probably one of the very few books on World War II that brings me comfort. The author is very talented and the story feels magical despite the horror of war. Like the main characters, I fall in love with Whisperwood and I wish to escape into that enchanted land (esp. with the crazy world we live i now). It soothes me to think about a place where anything I want can happen and I can be whatever I want. I also love the ending 🥹
