I have been stricter in my rating recently, so check out this year’s ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #bookrecommendation, which I really enjoyed and still think about constantly. ✨

🔖 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗠𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 by Joanna Glen

💬 My thoughts: This is a story about a girl called Eva, who grew up searching for her real mother and met different mother figures in the process. I smiled, I laughed and I cried throughout the book. I was so touched by the love and friendship in her life and was also reminded that family isn’t all about blood relations. I couldn’t move on after finishing it. 😭

🔖 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐇𝐲𝐮𝐧𝐚𝐦-𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 by Hwang Bo-Reum

💬 My thoughts: This is a story about Yeong-Ju who quit her job, divorced her husband and moved to a small residential neighbourhood outside the city where she opened a bookshop. Reading this book was like being under a fluffy blanket on a cold rainy day. ☕️ It might be boring if you are looking for plot/action, but if you want to read something that heals your tired #CorporateGirlie soul, this is it.

It’s so heartwarming to see how the bookshops bring different people together. I wish we still have a bookshop like that in Singapore. I read 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐤𝐢 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 after and I prefer this so much more! ✨

🔖 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐬 by Erika Johansen

💬 My thoughts: A dark Nutcracker retelling? sign me up! 🤯 I didn’t expect to love this book so much. It’s so magical and yet filled with so much horror. I absolutely enjoyed every second if it and had a tough time moving on from this. I wish it’s a series instead of a standalone. 🫠 Highly recommend this if you want to try out gothic fantasy.

🔖 𝐀 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 by Hanya Yanagihara

💬 My thoughts: 814 glorious pages‼️ I was so hesitant about reading this because it’s such a big commitment, but I’m glad I did because it was good. I cried so much and my heart broke for everything that happened to the four friends navigating their life in New York. While I love this book, I do think that it’s not for everyone as there are a lot of tws throughout. I really wish they make a movie for this on top of the play. 🥲

🔖 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐀𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞 by Kristin Hannah

💬 My thoughts: It’s a story of a family who moved to wild Alaska looking for a new start yet finding out that sometimes the greatest threat isn’t external. I felt so much emotion reading this. I always love stories about people who moved to remote lands and survive/thrive in a small community, but I didn’t expect this particular story to be so painful, yet eye-opening at the same time. Kristin Hannah is such a good writer and the audiobook narrator is amazing! 😭 Highly recommend the author’s works.
