I have definitely had my fair share of sleep problems. Most of the time the reason for me not being able to fall asleep is because my thoughts are racing. It can be really hard to quiet those thoughts and clear my mind. But once I do, I am able to fall asleep easily.

Here are two exercises that I do to help me fall asleep quickly when I can’t seem to stop thinking.

1. Count down from 100 by 3: This one works really well for me. I typically fall asleep before getting halfway through! It uses just enough brain power to keep me focused on that and distract me from my thoughts. I try to count slowly and I notice I’ll even lose my place as I begin to get more and more tired. If that happens, I’ll just guess which number I was at and go from there.

2. Relax each part of my body from head to toe: I believe this exercise is a type of relaxation meditation. Simply start from head to toe (or toe to head) and take a moment to relax each individual part of your body. Not only does it help reduce my overthinking since I have something to focus on, but it also completely relaxes me to the point where I fall asleep easier.
