Barry’s class is a 55-minute boot camp, alternating between the FLOOR (strength) and the THREAD (running).

If you do not want to run, you can pick the Double Floor (DF) option where you work on strength exercises throughout the class.

Barry’s classes can get confusing for first timers so here’s what you can expect:

🔥 THE THREAD

When you are on the thread, the instructor will call out specific incline and speed ranges.

For example, they will say “4 incline, 5, 6, 7”. The first digit corresponds to your incline while the next three numbers are your running speed options (beginner/intermediate/advanced). You can choose to go at any of the speed options, depending on how you are feeling that day.

The tread section is very HIIT-based. So you can expect to run at certain speeds for 90 seconds with 30-second sprints (speeds between 10-12) thrown in.

They push you to work at the maximum effort for majority of the class at Barry’s, so you are going to sprint REALLY hard. Brace yourself for it!

🔥 THE FLOOR

Instructor will inform you to get a set of dumbbells.

If you think the floor section will be a good break after the strenuous run on the threadmill, sorry but the strength training is equally challenging. The compound exercises are tough, and will leave your muscles shaking by the time you step back onto the thread.

❤️ TIP

There is no warm up at Barry’s and the class intensity goes up fast - which means it can get pretty disorienting if you start on a treadmill! I personally prefer to start with the Floor section to keep my muscles moving and heart pumping a little before the intense running. However, if you would still like to start on the threadmill, do try to go to class slightly earlier to stretch or start with a minute or so of jogging at the threadmill before class begins.

⭐️ OVERALL REVIEW

Barry’s is extremely challenging, and if you love rigorous workouts that pushes yourself beyond your limits, this is for you!! I wouldn’t really suggest those new to working out to try Barry’s as it is not beginner friendly.
