Barry’s Bootcamp is one of the more popular HIIT studios in SG. It combines both cardio and strength training to give you a total body burn. As someone who hates running, how did I cope? Here’s my review:

❓HOW ARE BARRY’S WORKOUTS?

- You can choose to do both threadmills and strength training, or double strength training in one session.

- The instructor tells you how fast to set the threadmill to and at what % incline. They also guide you through the different strength exercises

❤️ PROS

✔️ Amazing amenities - they have many lockers, Oribe Toiletries, Dyson hairdryers and straighteners, hair ties, towels, basically everything you need except your workout gear

✔️ Good combination of cardio & strengths - I liked the focus on the threadmills as it really gets my heart rate up. I hate running but this manageable because I saw it as a challenge to stay on track!

✔️ Burns quite a lot of calories for a 50 min session

✔️ Focus on different body parts on different days - this encourages you to work out a few times a week and also gives you the opportunity to rest your sore muscles from the previous workout

✔️ Good vibes in the Red Room - the dark lighting, pounding music, and red lights really got me in the mood to workout!

✔️ Easy to book classes because there’s so many slots

🙅🏻‍♀️ CONS

❌ Class sizes are too big and I don’t think the instructor can focus on your form

❌ Not enough shower cubicles for such large classes so there’s always a queue to bathe

❌ Only 2 locations in town so it’s not as convenient

❌ Not sure how much the strength training helps in building muscle 🤔

❌ So expensive unless you go for classes everyday

💸 PRICES

- $39 for 3 class trial

- $99 for 2 weeks unlimited classes (first timers)

- $33 per class if you buy a package of 50

- $19.90 per class if you go everyday for 12 weeks 😳

💭 OVERALL VERDICT

I think Barry’s is fantastic for anyone looking to really lose weight, through their cardio heavy focus. I was really pushed to run so much longer and faster despite me hating to run! However I don’t know how much muscle I’ll be able to build here, and I’m constantly worried about my form. With the limited locations only in town, it’s hard to commit going regularly when I’m not heading to the office 😞

For that reason I don’t think I’ll be signing up for their $99 2 weeks unlimited classes package.
