OVERHYPED Tiktok KBBQ Place: Wangbijip ❌ Don’t Go!

As someone who has eaten a shit ton of Kbbq that was recommended by Korean locals and friends. This time, i was influenced by tiktok to try out this stall. It’s my third time in Korea, so I suppose it was time for me to try some famous tiktok shops. I have already tried >20+ kbbq shops over my 3 trips to korea.

I was also wondering about its high raving reviews as well!

But only to find out it’s one of those stores that gives freebies - if you leave them a 5 star review 😓

Here’s why it’s Wangbijip Myeongdong Main store is overrated my opinion:

Portion: extremely little for 1 pax, 140g, which is smaller in real life.

Korean 1 pax portions are usually more than we can manage, but their portions leave me wanting for more.

Taste: 6/10 - their meats tasted like what i could get in sg.

Service: 10/10 - i would admit that their service is good. 👍🏻

💵Price: Super pricey for its portion.

1 pax of 150g pork

2 rice

totaled to 68,000won

For comparison, here’s another KBBQ store in Yeonnamdong (Hongdae), this is a famous shop amongst Korean, more upscale.

1 pax portion beef sirloin

2 pax portion pork

1 soy paste rice cooked in stone pot

1 soft drink

total: 72,000 won

seems more expensive? But notice how much more food we are getting. And taste wise, Wangbijip can’t even compare. I will share my recommendation on this shop on another post.

Here’s another comparison in Hongdae (5 mins from Hongdae shopping street):

2 pax pork set (3 types of meat)

1 pax beef

1 fried rice with cheese (4 pax portion)

1 steamed egg

1 tofu soup

1 drink

total: 56,000 won

this shop is more famous amongst youngsters, more budget friendly shop, even their pork tasted slightly better than wangbijip 😞

So if you guys are looking for amazing Kbbq, avoid relying on google reviews.

📝 Try looking through NAVER, NAVERmap, most of the places there would have amazing food and amazing prices. Use their Restaurant function. Try to avoid eating in places or big streets that are tourist centric, you are unlikely to find good food there, unless it’s a chain restaurant.
