π°ππππ πππππππππ are the perfect recipe to make if you have leftover puff pastry. π₯ This was my reasoning anyways but also explains why they donβt look that pretty but they still taste amazing luckily. π« I bought an entire bag of apples to make these and ended up with so much leftover apple filling. It might make more sense for you to make a small batch of apple filling in a shallow pan first then make more as needed but my measurements down below is what I made using lots of apples and one sheet of puff pastry.
Ingredients:
- 8 apples
- 2 tsps cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ginger
- 1/2 Cup granulated sugar
- 3 Tbsps butter
- 2 Tbsps cornstarch
Step 1: Make sure you have pastry dough thatβs defrosted already. Core, skin and chop clean red apples into small bite sized pieces.
Step 2: To a large pot add them and the other ingredients listed above then simmer until goey. This could take 30 minutes if using 8 apples but as short as 5 if making a small batch. Freeze any filling you donβt use now for another time.
Step 3: Roll out the puff pastry using a rolling pin so it becomes flatter to work with. You should be able to make 6-8 turnovers per rolled sheet of dough.
Step 4: Cut flattened dough into long pieces that can be easily folded over into turnovers. Itβs ok if the pastry dough is falling apart a bit especially if youβre working with gluten free dough like I am.
Step 5: Add filling to one side of each flattened piece then carefully fold over and crimp the edges with a fork.
Step 6: Use spatula to transfer turnovers to baking pan then brush with melted butter, top with granulated sugar and use scissors to cut slits into pastries.
Step 6: Bake according to the instructions on the puff pastry. I slightly burned mine so keep in mind to pay attention to avoid this.
