my first ever big girl purchase as a 19yo

17yo me would have never thought 19yo would be able to purchase my first ever big girl purchase🥹

as im starting uni this year, i have always wanted to get a laptop with my own money and have been choosing between windows and apple. however after giving deep thoughts, i feel that apple might be the most suitable laptop especially since my ipad and phone are all from apple. of course, the price of the macbook is not cheap and i was hesitating on whether i should really spend my hard earned money just like that. however, my parents told me this :” the purpose of working hard and earning money is to spend it! if youre not going to spend your money, whats the point of working so hard? “ which gave me a huge push to make this big decision as a 19yo w/o a stable job.

however, to have a significant amount of savings at 19yo, was bc i sacrificed many things! i was hustling between a few jobs like insurance PA and part time tutoring because i really wanted to increase my savings. i have also allocated part of my savings into FD based in DBS bank to increase the savings since the money will be lying in my account anyways. pls do take note DONOT put everything to FD leave sone for emergency savings! I also do not splurge money frequently. i eat mostly caifan that ranges at most $3.50 (1veg 1meat) and i try to take public transport compared to grab etc! i feel like its these small actions that contribute to big savings!

of course, i am absolutely grateful for my parents because they have helped alot in terms of my financial burden, giving me a chance to save up to afford things i need or want.

if you are seeing this and still hesitating on whether you should spend the money, you should just spend it. you only live once and if not now then when? treat this as a motivation for you to work harder and earn the money back 🩷
