### Guide to Visiting Gaomei Wetlands in Taichung

Gaomei wetlands is one of the must-go places you can visit when you are at Taichung especially during Sunset. If you are someone who enjoys coastal walks, you will enjoy walking along the Turbine area!

#### Getting There

By Public Transport:

- Bus: Direct buses to Gaomei Wetlands are available from Taichung. Take Bus 309 from the Taichung HSR Station or Bus 655 from the Taichung Train Station.

#### Best Time to Visit

- Sunset: The wetlands are most famous for their stunning sunsets. Plan to arrive about 1-2 hours before sunset to find a good spot and enjoy the changing colors.

- Tides: Check the tide schedule before visiting. Low tide is the best time to see the exposed mudflats and the various wildlife.

#### What to Bring

- Comfortable Shoes: The boardwalk can be slippery, and the mudflats can be uneven.

- Sun Protection: Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen as there is little shade.

- Camera: The landscape and wildlife provide excellent photo opportunities.

- Water and Snacks: There are some street food stalls along the roadside near the Boardwalk area. but it is best to bring some water on your own.

- Passport or any identification: This is required only if you are planning to rent a bicycle

#### What to See and Do

1. Boardwalk:

- The wooden boardwalk stretches over the wetlands, allowing you to walk out over the tidal flats without disturbing the ecosystem. It’s the best place to observe the wetlands' unique flora and fauna. Most of the tourist are around this area. I didn't enjoy this place as much due to the crowd but the Sunset view of the Turbines is amazing here!

2. Wind Turbines:

- The iconic wind turbines against the setting sun make for spectacular photos. There are much lesser people here and walking along the Turbines can be quite peaceful!

4. Photography:

- The best spots for photography are at the end of the boardwalk and near the wind turbines. Sunset is the prime time for capturing the beauty of the wetlands.

#### Local Tips

- Tide Timing: Check the tide charts in advance. Low tide reveals the expansive mudflats and the creatures that inhabit them.

- Crowds: Weekends can be crowded. For a quieter experience, visit on a weekday.

- Stay on the Boardwalk: For your safety and to protect the ecosystem, stay on the designated paths and boardwalk.

- Cycling: There is a bike rental shop around the visitor center. I would recommend cycling cycling around the Turbines and also to the Broadwalk area.

However, you will need to provide your identity document, eg. passport during the rental.

My overall rating: 5/5! This is a must go if you are visiting Taichung!
