things to do in taichung / taipei 🇹🇼🏮🧋🗻

recently came back from my trip to taiwan and decided to share some places that i feel are definitely worth visiting! 💗

most of the places here are situated in taichung as i spent more of my time there as compared to taipei ☺️

1. Qingjing Farm / 清境农场

located in ren'ai township in nantou taiwan , qingjing farm is definitely a must visit as it boasts gorgeous mountaintop views! entrance ticket to the farm costs less than $10 SGD , and there are plenty of free roaming sheep for you to feed and take photos with! there are vending machines there that sell treats for the sheep which cost less than $2 SGD as well :) definitely try to go during spring ( march - may ) as you'll be able to witness cherry blossoms growing on trees 🌸

2. Gaomei Wetlands / 高美濕地

gaomei wetlands is one of the places you MUST VISIT when in taichung! it boasts some of the most stunning sunset views along with silhouettes of their gigantic wind turbines! definitely try to reach just before or around sunset time to get the best views 🌅 do take note that it can get quite cold as the winds there are pretty crazy considering how you're right next to the sea , not to mention the wind from the windmills themselves 💨

3. Miyahara

located in the bustling city of taichung , miyhara is a super unique ice cream shop with a vintage / historical like interior! the high ceilings and wooden bookshelves definitely gave me huge harry potter vibes ✨ the shop sells a myriad of chinese medicine and dried fruits which are worth checking out! however , one thing you can't miss out on here is their ice cream of course 🍦 they offer over 50 different flavours of ice cream , and each scoop of ice cream comes with a free topping as well , super worth imo 😍

4. Feng Chia Night Market / 逢甲夜市

a huge night market nestled next to feng chia university , the snacks and food stalls operating there are some of the best and most delicioys night market food i've ever tried 🤤🤤 ( must try foods from here include takoyaki from 日船章魚小丸子 , rice sausage stuffed with small sausage from 官芝霖大腸包小腸 and danbing from 明倫蛋餅 )

5. Zhongshe flower market taichung

probably my most favourite place i visited this entire trip! zhongshe flower market is a huge flower market that is a 40 minute drive away from central taichung and it offers the most beautiful and instagrammable floral backdrops 🌷🌻🌸 even during winter season there are still plenty vibran flowers in full bloom , including sunflowers , carnations and lupins that paint the fields of the flower market like a rainbow 🌈 not to mention , they have an indoor BBQ zone for you to feast on good BBQ food after snapping your pictures!

6. LuGao Cafe / 鹿篙咖啡莊園

one of the most aesthetic cafes i've ever been to , lugao cafe is situated among the hills of nantou and is surrounded by never ending views of coffee and tea farms. the interior of the cafe is adorned with tall glass windows , high ceilings and wooden furniture. they even have an outdoor seating area for you to sip on coffee while enjoying the breathtaking view ⛰

7. Zhang Mei Ama’s Farm / 張美阿嬤農場

this farm is located in yilan , taiwan which is about a 1 hour drive from taipei. a must go for animal ( and especially capybara ) lovers , the farm is actually very well organised and kept very clean which earned plus points from me ⭐️⭐️⭐️ there are two types of tickets you can buy , with the lower priced ticket being NTD 200 and the higher one being NTD 320 ( should be around there , can't remember anymore 🥲 ) and the more expensive ticket allows you to experience a 10 minute mochi making workshop and vegetable as well! upon entering the farm , you will get to see various animals like alpacas , capybaras , kangaroos , turtles , deer and sheep. you will be given a stack of leaves to feed the animals but do ration them out properly as most people run out of leaves after just entering the first out of three zones of the farm

8. Christmasland in New Taipei City

obviously only a once a year event , christmasland in new taipei city really has some of the most beautiful christmas lights and light shows i've ever seen ( think of christmas wonderland but better) with countless numbers of photo taking spots , you'll definitely be spending a good amount of time there. additionally , at night they have a christmas light up show / animation which is repeated every hour , so don't worry if you missed one of them! the area is also surrounded by large shopping malls which you can go to after viewing the christmas lights! do pay a visit if you're in taipei during the festive period 🎄🎄

9. Shifen Old Street / Jiufen Old Street

a very familiar tourist spot to everyone , do spare a day of your trip and head down to shifen to witness the amazing waterfall and write wishes on paper lanterns and release them up into the sky nearby! at jiufen , do take your time to marvel at the beautiful scenery of the eastern coast of taiwan and walk through all the alleys to try out different street food 🍴
