After seeing a TON of Lemon8 π posts raving about this cafe w zero negative reviews on Google π€― (as of last month), Cafe Margaret has always been my top priority on my food bucket list π€©π. Unfortunately, my personal visit was rather underwhelming so I thought of sharing my review here so that you can have a more objective POV about this cafe βοΈ:
π©π»βπ³Shop name: Cafe Margaret πβοΈ
πOverall rating: 7/10
πΈ: $$ (approx. $25 for 2 cube pies & 1 latte)
π½οΈDish, Rating:
βοΈ Injeolmi Cube Pie ($8.30): 8/10
Among the 3 items I ordered, I thought that this was the only one I would visit again for if I was in the vicinity. The injeolmi cream filled inside the pastry was nutty π₯and not too sweet π. If you are a BIG fan of muah chee π‘, you will def enjoy this! However, I personally felt that the term βcube pieβ was a bit misleading. From its appearance, I thought that it was some sort of cake π° but turns out it was actually pastry π₯, almost reminiscent of the taste of bread π With 72 layers of pastry, it was very tough to cut vertically πͺ If you are getting this, pro tipβ: cut the pie horizontally instead, it will be a lot easier to eat! If I had one suggestion, I think the dish should be called cube toasts π§π instead to avoid confusing customers!
βοΈ Pistachio Cube Pie ($8.30): 7/10
This is exactly the same as the Injeolmi Cube Pie but filled with Pistachio cream instead. This was personally too sweet for my liking πand not as nutty π₯ as I expected it to be. If you are looking for a good Pistachio dessert spot, check out my post on Venchi Pistachio Gelato hereβ¨instead.
βοΈ Iced Cafe Latte Classico + Vanilla Syrup ($8.20): 5/10
The latte was pretty standard, nothing to shout about π«€. For $8.20, I suggest using the money to try out their other desserts instead. Also, the vanilla syrup π¦was quite weak in flavour so if you are planning to order a cup, you may need to request for additional shots!
πAmbience & thoughts:
Donβt get me wrong, true to the posts online, the interior of the cafe was very beautiful, as though I was transported to a cafe at Seoul π°π·. The cottage ambience made the cafe really homey π‘ as though Iβm visiting a house from a fairytale book π§ββοΈ. Unfortunately, the desserts and drinks were not as mindblowingly good as I expected πΏ. I visited last Friday around 2pm+ and fortunately did not have to queue for a seat. But after leaving at around 3pm+, there were at least 4 groups of customers waiting to get a seat. I personally would not queue to dine at this cafe π ββοΈ. Also, another point to note is that the cafe has a self-service system where you have to order and collect your food and drinks from the first floor and bring it up to the second floor to dine-in. If you are eating alone, you may need to go up and down a couple of times as their plates and cups are made of ceramics and glass. They were quite heavy and could be quite dangerous if you are carrying all by yourself. That being said also note that this cafe is not wheelchairπ©βπ¦½and pram friendly πΌ as there was only a staircase to get to the dining area on the 2nd floor.
Let me know if I missed out any dishes that are worth the hype π€© or if you also share similar sentiments like me π€!
