🇻🇳 TRAVEL SERIES 1.2: Tailor Made Clothes

Would love to share with you my very first tailoring experience overseas at Hoi An, Vietnam!

Hoi An is well known for their custom-made tailoring services at their local Hội An Night Market, which is popular amongst tourists and locals alike.

It's a bit like Bugis / Arab street in Singapore, but they have wayyyy many more streets / lanes which are never-ending!

In a single stretch of street, there're already more than 5 tailor shops!

We got to know of Thanh Tú Tailoring Hoi An via our Airbnb host and decided to give their services a try, and they sure did not disappoint!

💸 Price (can be in USD or Vietnamese Dong) is dependent on your requests, fabric material & your bargaining skills

The staff (Hannah, Beyonce & another sweet lady whose name I didn't catch 😭, but i think is May) was super duper accomodating & easy going, cracking jokes with us along the way while still being professional!

It only took them LESS THAN A DAY to be done with the tailoring (like wowww?!)

📝 𝚃𝚒𝚙𝚜 📝

- Know roughly what kind of material you're looking for your clothes

- Style of clothes: casual, evening, smart casual, leisure wear

- Prepare some reference photos of what you want to be tailored

❓𝙷𝚘𝚠 𝚖𝚊𝚗𝚢 𝚏𝚒𝚝𝚝𝚒𝚗𝚐𝚜 𝚋𝚎𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚎 𝚌𝚘𝚕𝚕𝚎𝚌𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗❓

- It took me just 1 fitting to finalise the áo dài, 2 fittings for the evening dress and 0 fittings for the scarf and culottes pants!

- The fittings took less than 10mins each

- They will check if the clothes fits your shoulder, arms, waist, hips, length etc. depending on what you have custom made

👗 𝚃𝚛𝚊𝚍𝚒𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗𝚊𝚕 𝚅𝚒𝚎𝚝𝚗𝚊𝚖𝚎𝚜𝚎 Áo Dài

I can never express how much I LOVE the custom made áo dài they tailored for me! It fits me like a glove and the cutting is so so so flattering with a super comfy material! I got to chose the pattern and colour of the dress & pants! The material of the pants is made of silk so it's super smooth and cooling (OMG) while the dress is made of cotton & cashmere!

👗 𝙴𝚟𝚎𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝙳𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚜 𝚠𝚒𝚝𝚑 𝚂𝚌𝚊𝚛𝚏

I forgot what material was my dress made of but I got to pick the colour and material as well! A plus is that it comes with inner lining!

I showed May a reference picture of what I wanted and she got on the ball right away. The ruched / pleats from the side to across the middle of the dress was created in a way that i can adjust the number of folds I want (2 or 3 folds)! The slit on one side of the dress is pretty high though :p

The scarf was simpler as all I had to do was to choose the material and design I wanted and she measured the length of my arms hehe.

👖 𝙲𝚞𝚕𝚘𝚝𝚝𝚎𝚜 𝙿𝚊𝚗𝚝𝚜

The material of the pants is made from silk & cashmere so it's a little pricey, but I find it worth it as the material is really suitable for SG's bipolar weather and the colour is really unique!

I have 2 reference pictures for this design and combined it into one (the button to be at the side instead of front & the pants design).

It does not have an inner lining but the material is not too thick nor thin and it's super comfy!!

💸 1.1mil Vietnamese Dong (SGD 60)

All in all, I think it is really worth it for the material, fast craftsmanship, price & the staff's professionalism!

You won't be able to get such a deal in Singapore!!
