< Yonsei Internation summer School >

A little late of an update but I wanted to share what it was like studying at Yonsei for the international summer programme.

Although I went for the summer programme, Yonsei also actually offers a winter school programme for those who are interested in going during the winter season! So for those of you who are interested don’t forget to sign up with them!

📍Location: Yonsei University, Sinchon Campus

💰Price: about 1.6k, I took 1 course but you can take up to 2 courses. There is early bird discount if you sign up before the stipulated date given by them!

⏳Duration: 4 weeks or 6 weeks

💻Process:

As I am currently a university student enrolled in a local uni in Singapore (SUSS), going for summer school is optional but allows us to clear the overseas experience requirement as well as clear one module. (check with your school)

To sign up for summer school in Korea, we had to firstly go through the school. As Korea is in high demand it was in a fcfs basis. We had to fill up the form once it is opened and will only be notified to advance with the process by the school if we fall within their quota.

Also, we could only apply for Korea University and courses that are approved by the school in advance. Bidding for other courses in Yonsei that are not in the list will not allow us to clear credit units.

After we were given the green light to proceed at the school, we signed up with Yonsei on their summer school website here at https://summer.yonsei.ac.kr/home/

The process was rather easy, we just had to submit a few documents and follow their instructions for payment. Do not worry if u do not own any Korean cards as you can pay by paynow!

🏠Where to stay:

Yonsei’s international summer/winter programmes also offer dorms which you can stay in for a very good price of about 400/month depending on which dorm. This also requires you to go through a bidding process. I personally did not bid for the dorm but I have heard that the slots go out very fast!

If you are not staying in the dorm, I would recommend you to stay near sinchon/Hongdae area for an easy commute to school.

🧍🏻‍♀️People:

Before going to Yonsei’s summer school, I though I would be in a class with Korean students and being able to make some Korean friends but NO! Because this is an international exchange programme, you will be meeting mostly students from other countries like China, Australia, Switzerland, Europe etc.

🏫Orientation:

Before classes commence officially, there is orientation one day before! The orientation has some perfomances by the school dance grp and even talks by local police on safety! It is quite informative and helpful for us international students to know who to contact, what to do and where to go to in case of emergency. There is also a school tour but its based ona fcfs basis so you have to sign up fast! or else i will highly reccommend you explore yourself with the map given to find out the block and classroom you will be in! (its really easy to navigate!)

📖Class:

The classes for this programme are conducted every Monday to Thursday. One session per module per day (depending on how many modules you take). One module typically lasts up to 3 hours.

🤸Activities:

They offer curriculum activites such as kpop dance at onemillion dance studio, palace tour, everland and many more! Just keep a look out and remember to sign up.

✏️Grades:

The programme was graded therefore, there were assignments, tests and class participations that make up your final grade upon 4.0

For me I just had to pass because no matter how well I did it would be converted to a pass/fail for my school.

👩🏻‍🎓Graduation:

Even though it is a short programme, Yonsei even had a graduation for us which was really cute☺️

They had graduation gowns for us to rent to take pictures at their photobooth!

As it was a dream of mine to study overseas in Korea this was a fun and fulfilling experience getting to meet people from different countries, background, and culture! It also allowed me to experience and explore Korea more and learn how to be independent living alone without my parents.

To end it off, I highly recommend Yonsei for an international programme if you are considering to go as it one of the University there that is foreigner friendly and has a really pretty campus! 😉
