Yes, there are options for kitchen countertops too! If you were not renovating your house, you’d probably think that all kitchen countertops were the same but no! There are quite a few options to choose from and today we’ll cover the 3 most popular countertop options: Quartz, Sintered stone and Kompacplus.

1. Quartz

The most timeless of them all and also the safest bet. Quartz is known for its durability, in fact, based on the MOH (material of hardness) scale, Quartz ranks 6-7/10 (for reference, diamond ranks 10). 🏋🏻 Made up of non porous materials, it is water resistant, impact, scratch and stain resistant as well. Quartz is also relatively easy to clean - spilled something? Just wet a cloth and wipe it up!

On the flip side, quartz is expensive! 💸 And even though it is said to be heat resistant and stain resistant, there are many instances of discolouration or cracks due to direct heat (100 degrees celcius or so) - so if you don’t want to have ugly brownish heat rings on your countertop, be sure to use a coaster or a heat pad.

2. Sintered stone

If you think quartz is durable, wait till you check out sintered stone. Sintered stone ranks around 7-8/10 on the MOH scale which makes it almost stain, scratch and impact proof. Also, due to the way sintered stone is made, it is superior in terms of heat resistance and can withstand up to 300 degrees celcius. 🔥 Similar to quartz, it’s super easy to clean it up using a wet cloth. If you’re looking at a very uniformed look throughout the house, good news! Sintered stone is so versatile, you can also use it for your floor, walls and even furniture pieces so you can have matchy matchy kitchen countertop and wardrobe doors 😌

Due to its superiority and durability, sintered stone is considered one of the more expensive countertop options. But if money is not your main concern, get this! It’s the best countertop option money can buy thus far ✨

3. Kompacplus

Kompacplus originates from Singapore - local pride! 🇸🇬 It’s known for how sleek and thin it is - just 3-6mm in thickness 🤯 Similar to sintered stone, kompacplus is also super durable. It also has excellent stain resistant properties so if one of your guest spills red wine during a wild night but you’re too drunk to clean it up before you sleep, no worries - just clean it up the next morning! Kompacplus can also be used for different surfaces throughout the house and best part? The installation can be done in just 3 days or so!

The downside? Kompacplus is more limited in design - unlike quartz or stone or granite where you can play around with veins, lines, colours etc, you don’t have the luxury to do that with kompacplus just yet. Similar to quartz, it may not have the BEST heat resistance so direct contact with heat can lead to damage or discolouration. Kompacplus is also not a large slab of stone so you can expect visible joint lines.

Luckily for us, our ID is all for sintered stone and has thrown in a sintered stone option for us at a rather affordable cost. With all the pros of sintered stone countertop and without the con of it being too expensive, we’d be silly to say no to sintered stone! 🙌🏻
