Not sure how to lump this group together so I call them "surfaces" haha... This group is the kitchen's countertop, backsplash, floor tiles and laminates.

Kitchen countertop ---@kompacplus k2.08 silicily dark walnut

We had used kompacplus countertop for our previous house and we're satisfied of how it performed. I really did not like the marble look so at that point sintered stone and quartz was out for us. However, it seems like now sintered stone has some stone like countertops to suit the wabi sabi theme? That would have been something that I would have checked out however when we were deciding, the wabi sabi trend hadn't come ard yet and we chose the wooden theme as our option.

Fun fact: we chose the countertop before choosing the laminates to complement it.

Pros abt Kompacplus -

**Stain and water resistant

**Easy to maintain as spills and stains are easily wiped away

Cons:

**Realised that after some months of using, there are slight scratches on the countertop, most prob caused by me pulling and pushing the rice cooker or other appliances in and out of the space.

** Another con is that there might be bubbling on the countertop if water is left on it over a long period of time and that is something that I have to be careful as water is constantly pooling near our kitchen tap.

Next up: kitchen backsplash

This time our ID proposed us to use tiles as our backsplash. Our previous hse, we used glass backsplash and honestly, it was quite high maintenance to clean e glass... And over the years the glass has a sticky feel to it and no matter how we wipe, could not get the stickiness off. So we were happy to change to tiles for this house.id proposed to use long slab tiles to elongate the area and I m happy with the low maintenance so far. Just spray magic clean degreaser and wipe down after each use.

Kitchen floor, we chose to go with a r10 kitchen floor even though our ID kept asking us sure or not? 😂 Not sure what we were thinking then... Why wld we need a r10 tile? R is for the anti slip factor. The tile we got was slightly rough and initially we were not used to stepping on it. the colour we went with was lighter cos we din want to make the kitchen too dark. but becos of this, dirt on the floor is more easily seen and this cause me to have to vaccum more often so good and bad to be able to see the dirt.😅

last but not least, kitchen laminates.

we actually chose the kompacplus countertop before choosing the laminates to go with the countertop. not so gutsy to choose coloured laminates as we wanted a classic timeless feel as we plan to stay here for long. went with panaplast Matt laminates in latte colour to create a soothing, calming palette. One thing if I could redo in this Reno, could be opting for anti fingerprint laminates as I can see fingerprints marks sometimes. However anti fingerprinte laminates are costly and we chose to save that money instead. just clean more often haha!

Would you have chosen differently from us? do let us know in the comments!
