The handmade buckwheat noodles are really ๐ฎโ๐จ slurpsssss. I love how they are also MSG free, so I can really enjoy this healthy yet hearty meal.
Specialising in 100% handmade buckwheat noodles, this small Japanese hide-out is indeed a gem in middle of Chinatown.
We ordered the Lunch Soba and Sushi Set - chose the Zara Soba, had 3 Seasonal Sushi and 2 Reiwa Roll. The other main ordered was the ala carte Signature Reiwa Pork Soba. Opting for additional sides of Soba Flour Kakiage and Onsen Eggs which was being suggested to mix into the Soba Dipping Sauces - my first time having it this way - and wow, it was YUMMZ!
The Reiwa Pork Soba came with their in house signature sauce, a warm mildly spicy dipping sauce (you may choose to opt the chilli oil out). Personally thought this sauce was way thicker than the Zaru soba with Chilled Dashi Soy Dipping Sauce. The staff also provided fried tempura crisps to mix into the signature sauce, but over time it became soggy so I didnโt quite enjoy it. :โ) We both agreed that the dashi sauce from the Zara Soba was more palatable, hence pairing better with the noodles.
I did like the white pork slices from the Reiwa soba though! Although it was served cold and is slightly bland, but dipping into the thick sauce gave it sufficient flavour - a good umami punch! ๐
On the other hand, I didnโt felt like the sushi here had anything to complement, rather it tasted quite normal like the express sushi kind, and would skip it the next time. In all, I felt like ordering the soba noodles and other sides would have been a better choice. But I truly enjoyed the Soba noodles - imagine a slight chewy texture but yet still light on the palette, in which I finished every strand of it โ๐ป.
