There’s a new exhibition at National Gallery! “See Me See You”
05 May 2023 - 04 Feb 2024
Part One: 5 May 2023 – 17 September 2023
Part Two: 13 October 2023 – 4 February 2024
The Ngee Ann Kongsi Concourse Gallery - Level B1 - City Hall Wing
This two-part series provides an intriguing look at the critical moments in the 1980s and 1990s when video installation first developed. The exhibition itself showcases 10 Southeast Asian artists experimenting with installation, performance, audience engagement, and video, resulting in a new type of art as a result of their interdisciplinary approach.
While the installations are semi-interactive and pretty interesting, it is quite small - in fact I believe there are only 5 installations on display (part 1) with the other 5 coming in the second part of the exhibition. My favourite installation out of the 5 is the Revenge of the Giraffe by Jean Marie Syjuco. It features a wooden, abstract Giraffe that allows visitors to talk to it (and it will talk back), your interactions with it are also recorded and live streamed on the TV at the entrance of the museum.
