Homemade Butter Recipe

Ingredients:

• 2 cups heavy cream

• Ice water

• Cheesecloth (optional)

• Salt (optional)

Instructions:

1. Prepare an Ice Bath: Fill a large bowl with ice water and set it aside. You’ll use this to chill the butter later.

2. Whip the Cream: In a stand mixer or with a hand mixer, beat the heavy cream on high speed. First, you’ll get whipped cream. Keep going past this stage, and eventually, the cream will separate into butter and buttermilk. This will take about 10–15 minutes.

3. Separate the Butter and Buttermilk: Once the butter has formed, pour off the buttermilk (save it for baking or discard it). Squeeze out any remaining liquid from the butter.

4. Chill the Butter: Place the butter into the ice bath to firm up. Let it sit for a few minutes.

5. Remove Excess Moisture: Using a cheesecloth or your hands, squeeze out any remaining water from the butter.

6. Shape and Store: Form the butter into your desired shape. If you like salted butter, knead in a pinch of salt at this point. Store the butter in the fridge for up to a week.
