Things you have to do when in Hoi An

I came back from my Vietnam trip (travelled to 4 cities) and Hoi an was easily my favourite. It gave off this authentic cultural old town feel. It’s super small, but still crowded in the city area and less so in the outskirts.

These are my must dos in Hoi An to get the full experience!

1. Memories show + Impression theme park

Memories show is one of the shows in the theme park but it is also the highlight of the theme park. It is the biggest show in Vietnam and there are over 500 performers. I highly highly recommend watching this show because the attention to detail and the amount of effort put into the visual performances is crazy! It starts at 8pm but do come earlier to the theme park to watch the many other mini acts leading to the big show.

2. Coconut boat ride

Ride the basket boat in Hoi an along the river and take many pictures at this Instagram worthy spot!

3. Airbnb food tour

This is one of the highlights of my trip so far. They gave me a local authentic experience of what Hoi an is like. It wasn’t just a simple food tour trying different popular food places. The tour started in the outskirts of Old Quarter, where I was brought to the noodle factory and bean sprouts farm to see how they were made and cleaned before being sold to the merchants at various food places.

4. Tailor shop hopping

A signature of Hoi an! Many people go to Hoi an to buy a new tailored blazer or dresses that fit them to perfection. And I 100% agree with this, I got sucked into the rabbit hole and bought 4 dresses 😭 On average, each dress is about 40-50USD which I found so worth it because they were all made to perfection. Have any design in mind? Just show the picture to them and they’ll make it for you! All you have to do is choose the fabric they have in store, they take your measurements and it’s done! The turnover is also super fast. I collected my dress in a few hours upon order.

5. Lantern boat ride

Lanterns are synonymous with Hoi an and it turns the river into an ocean of colourful paper lanterns. To get the full fledged experience of Hoi an, I highly recommend you go for the lantern boat ride.
