Overrated Cafe? 🥲☕️ | Five Oars Coffee Roasters

So I was pretty much a fan of Five Oars since they were at Tanjong Pagar but haven’t really had the time to try out their new menu (iirc the items are diff ah) after they shifted to East Coast.

I’ve walked past this new outlet before and I can say the ambiance is really great. The alfrescco area is so inviting with the cozy wodden and dark grey decor and the pets that hung out with their owners on a lazy sunday afternoon? Perfect.

When I finally visited the outlet last week, I was really pleasantly surprised that the inside didn’t disappoint either 🥰 When you step in, you’ll be greeted with the coffee bar and large seating areas on both sides. Reflecting the cozy alfrescco, inside was equally cozy with the same themeds of wood, dark decor and shades of dark emerald (Just such a beauty!! 😍)

Here’s what we chomp chomped on and our thoughts:

🥔𝙏𝙧𝙪𝙛𝙛𝙡𝙚 𝙈𝙖𝙨𝙝 ($8)

I was actually pretty looking forward to this and the first taste of this was actually pretty good! It was nice a smooth but the truffle really does slap you in the face :”) I’d defo recommend sharing but not finishing it on your own because the taste gets kinda boring and the truffle will get to your ick after awhile (esp since there’s a weird after taste to it)

🍳𝙀𝙜𝙜𝙨 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙒𝙖𝙮 ($12)

Add on: sautéed mushrooms ($4), bratwurst ($4).

This was more of a “build-you-own-breakkie” kinda style and we opted for the brioche and scrambled eggs, along with our other add ons. All was pretty okay apart from the bratwurst. Idk but… for $4 I honestly expecting at least the german bratwurst yknow, thicker or longer (👀) cause it was pretty expensive and underwhelming in terms of taste too. It didn’t have the nice “char” on the skin? It was more of kinda dehydrated vibes :”) But it was still pretty juicy on the inside - but still meh.

🫓𝘽𝙖𝙘𝙤𝙣 & 𝙃𝙖𝙨𝙝 ($21)

This was a big slab of rosti that came with 2 poached eggs, thick-cut bacon, spinach and mushroom creame. The bacon was love love, not those thin skinny overly cripsy ones. It had a new tender bite to it and cut through the rosti’s starchy taste really nicely. Poach eggs were done pretty well too. Only thing I had to say with this was that the rosti was way too thick for my liking (tho nice and crisp at the top). It made the whole dish too filling and the wet starchy potato alone (since the rosti was proportionately more) wasn’t it for me. Wish it maybe came with some sour cream or so to make the dish less jelak :”)

Soooo it’s safe to say I’d only be coming back for coffee. Pretty disappointing five oars :”)
