Marathon season is back! I will share with you how I prepared for the Sundown Marathon earlier this year with only 30 days of training. I hope this inspires you to consider running your first marathon. (PSS, Sg biggest marathon is happening on Dec 3)

1️⃣Set a realistic goal 🎯

As it was my first time attempting the full marathon distance (42.195km), my goal was to complete the race, regardless of the timing.

2️⃣Types of training runs (3x per week)

My training consisted of 3 types of runs;

[Track intervals]🦵

This workout is usually done at a track and it helps with building speed and increasing our fitness levels (Eg 800m x 8)

[Tempo runs]🦿

Similar to track workouts, a tempo workout helps to build endurance in our legs at a higher pace. (Eg 5.30/km pace for 4mins x 5 )

[Low heart-rate runs]❤️💨

Long runs take up about 80% of training. These runs are done in Zone 2 (look up heart rate zone training) and it helps build your body's overall running capacity. Being able to go further for less is extremely crucial for marathon training.

3️⃣ good running gear & a strong mind

make sure your shoes are in good condition! A good pair of shoes will prevent injury and keep your feet feeling fresh. I recommend checking out Hoka 👟
