I almost weighed myself today

I really considered it for a minute, honestly. What harm could it do to weigh myself in this gym? Surely the number wouldn’t affect me.

Then I thought back to when the number would glare up at me, making or breaking my day—and the only way I was satisfied was when the number was smaller in value than the number I had seen the day before.

I lived for the number; I almost died for the number. So I stepped back, letting the memories push me away from even the idea of the number staring me down.

I’m proud of myself for walking away. If you feel like the number on the scale has a hold on you, I hope you can walk away too.
