My training routine is full of several types of cardio, strength training, race training, and now rock climbing. So why do I have so many different types of training worked into my weekly routine? Each type of training serves a purpose. Let’s talk about it.

Strength Training: Strength training is my most consistent and favorite form of exercise. Strength training at this point is a therapy for me, but it also helps me build muscle and work towards my physique goals.

Cardio: One reason why I work out, is to make sure that I am maintaining my physical health and well-being as I age. I want to be able to have kids and grandkids someday and be able to keep up with them and really just be able to live my life to the fullest. Keeping my heart healthy is a huge part of this, and cardio help me take care of my heart.

Race Training: Training for races gives me a goal to work towards that incorporates many different styles of training. Also, there is nothing that beats the feeling on race day when you cross that finish line. The environment of races is so motivating and inspiring, so I love to do these every few months. I’ve done half marathons and spartan races.

Rock Climbing: This is something new that I just started about a week ago. Rockclimbing has been some thing that I have been wanting to try for a while, and a coworker got me to finally go with her and try it out. I found it super fun, since it ends up being kind of like a mix of strength, body awareness, and puzzles. I am super excited to keep working at this and get better over time.

Each style of training that you incorporate into your life should serve a purpose and should be something that you enjoy. Having some sort of mix of training styles, even if it’s just cardio and strength training, is actually the best way to structure your training routine. Think about how you could incorporate multiple styles into your own routine in a way that works with your passions and your lifestyle.
