I tried Must Buy Snacks in Japan. Here’s my rating

I tried these snacks that were mainly recommended by lemon8 users. Here’s my PERSONAL review!

1. NY Perfect Cheese

🧀 This one really slaps and is actually so good. I actually didn’t manage to buy this as it only sells in Tokyo and had major regrets when I only found out about it when I’m in Sapporo. However, my friend got it and let me tried and hits the expectation. Also, it actually tasted like snow cheese which I bought in Sapporo but a superior version.

2. Shiroi Koibito Biscuit

🍨This is overly famous and many would have tried it. The first time you have it would taste really good but subsequently its taste like an ordinary biscuit with cream. So the taste is nothing fancy anymore.

3. Osaka Hana Langue

🌸 This can only be bought in Osaka and it definitely did not hit the spot for me. Despite the honey and merigune being claimed to be differentiating flavour from other biscuits, it wasn’t really flavourful.

4. Press Butter Sand

🧈 I really liked the texture and filling. It was not exceptionally delicious but the filling can get additive.

5. Royce Potato Chip

🥔 I wasn’t expecting anything from it before I eat it as it is just potato chips. But, I was surprised with how well the coat of chocolate complemented with the chip. Although the chip is savoury and chocolate is sweet, they both creates a unique taste. It’s really delicious and the portion was a lot for Japan snacks!

6. Rokkatei Marusei Butter Cake

🍰 Although the famous one is the butter sandwich, I bought the walnut cake instead as I don’t eat raisin. I find the soft cake texture really appealing and the crunch in middle enhanced the snack. So the texture really hit the spot despite the lack in flavour.

⭐️ Rating: 3.5/5

7. Snow Cheese (White & Gold)

❄️ I bought and tried both the white and gold cheese. This is really popular in Sapporo and I had to queue in the morning for it. So, I was disappointed when the long queue did not translate to a good taste. The Snow White Cheese tasted like NY Perfect Cheese but were an inferior version of it. The gold cheese had a cheese on top of the biscuit and honestly it tasted nothing special.

☁️ Overall Thoughts

These are my own ratings and review but feel free to try it yourself! Food is subjective and what tasted mediocre for me might taste good to you. I feel that Japanese snacks are really for souvenirs with its small portions and appealing packaging.
