I spent almost half a day getting lost and shopping for snacks/souvenirs at Tokyo Station.
I’ve been to Tokyo several times. But I’ve only visited the station during a work trip to get Calbee+ for my sis. And boy, there’s so many snacks to eat and buy at the basement!
But why buy here instead of the airport? I actually found that there’s limited variety at the airport - for instance, there could be seasonal flavours that you can only find at their own stores. And for me, I can just pack them in my luggage and check-in, rather than carrying them around the airport and up the plane (laziness got the better of me, yes).
My top picks (based on areas):
📍 Inside Yaesu Underground Central Area
👉 Captain Sweets Burger
👉 Suica Penguin Bolo
📍 Outside Yaesu Underground Central Exit
👉 Tokyo Banana Buns: Legendary Curry Bun (356 yen/piece) and Cream Anmu Donuts (324 yen/piece) - just try both when you’re there!
👉 Calbee+ Poterico
👉 Press Butter Sand
👉 Jiichiro and Nenriya baumkuchen
The basement of Tokyo Station is huge. But fret not, there’ll be map brochures etc and Google Maps work (kind of) even for basement navigation! I personally think it’s quite fun getting lost and chancing upon a new area e.g. random supermarket selling juicy, mouthwatering fruits.
There’s also places to shop at and even a Tokyo Ramen Street there (which is nearby Tokyo Banana and Calbee+ stores), and of course, more snacks to explore. So be sure to check out the area when you’re near Tokyo Station!
