If you’re not familiar with jazz history, it might surprise you to find out that “Birdland” in NYC has nothing to do with birds and everything to do with phenomenal jazz music.

Named after one of its most famous performers, Charlie “Bird” Parker, Birdland hosts the finest jazz musicians of every genre, all throughout the year. The interior is modern but evocative of the dimly lit, classic Jazz clubs of the 20th century, giving the whole experience a more intimate ambiance (there’s something undeniably “New York” about jazz in a private basement, almost as if the experience is something worth hiding).

With a full menu of food and drinks, the venue offers multiple ways to elevate the music. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so coming here early and having a drink or snack before the show is always a good idea.

Once your spectacle is over, I recommend having dinner at Norma Hells Kitchen. This Sicilian Restaurant is a 10-minute walk from Birdland, and it doesn't require reservations. The place guest very busy as the night goes on, but I've never waited more than 10 minutes for a table. Norma is a gem that I recently discovered, and their Arancini and Pizzas are from another world, it is a must-try.

And to wrap up the night, stop at Schmackary's for some mouth-watering cookies. If you're lucky you may even get their buy one get one free at the end of the night!
