If you have friends coming to visit Singapore, or you’d like to spend a day in Singapore as a tourist, this series of guides is for you! Instead of cycling at East Coast Park, cycle here - and you can even cycle from East Coast Park onto this loop as well, if you should choose to do so!

🗺️Route 6: Night/day cycling tour around the Bay! (Min. 2 hours)

If you can cycle, dedicate a night to cycling around Singapore’s reclaimed bay area! YOu can also do this tour in the day, but the city views are the best when the glittering skyscrapers are lit up!

1. Start off your day at Promenade MRT station - head to Suntec City to stock up on water, cold drinks and snacks - you’ll need it if you choose to do this tour in the day!

2. 🎡 Singapore Flyer - A short stroll away from the MRT station, you can take a 30 minute ride to see Singapore from the world’s second tallest Observation Wheel! (See my post on Singapore Flyer) Start your cycling tour here by renting from GoCycle Bicycle Rentals. If not, you can also choose to rent a bicycle from all around Singapore using SGBike, Anywheel or HelloRide (my personal favourite since the bicycles are all brand new!)

3. You will not embark on a loop around the greater bay area, made up of the artificial bay created by land reclamation, with four rivers flowing into the bay itself - Singapore River, Rochor River, Geylang River and Kallang River.

4. You can choose to go clockwise or anticlockwise, either way is fine! I prefer to save the best views for the last, so take the clockwise route by heading northwards towards Kallang. Follow the Park connector all the way to Merdeka Bridge, and cross it towards the Sports Hub.

5. 🏟 Stop by at Sports Hub to admire the world’s largest free-spanning dome, and take a break here to enjoy the views. You can rent boats to kayak and dragon-boat here, or play volleyball at one of the volleyball courts!

6. From Sports Hub, head towards Tanjong Rhu by crossing the pedestrian bridge over the river. From here, you will start heading West back towards Marina Bay.

7. 🎇After passing by the castle-like condominiums at Tanjong you will cross under the huge Bay East Bridge, and you will arrive at Marina Bay East. It’s a long linear park, but you get one of the best views of Marina Bay Sands with the VBD behind it, as well as the supertrees! The view only gets better at night, and this is a super popular fireworks spot as well.

8. 🧺 Cycle to the end of the park and you’ll arrive at Marina Barrage. Cycle over to enjoy the views of the city- notice the differences in colour of the seawater outside the barrage, and the freshwater inside. Take a break at Marina Barrage, there are water coolers for you to refill your bottle. You can have a picnic on the green roof, and just enjoy the view of the city, fly a kite, or just hang out.

9. 🤑Once you’re rested and ready to go, it’s time to cycle back to your starting point! Now you’ll be in Gardens by the Bay, and you can take your time to cycle through the different free themed gardens, see the supertrees, and if time and budget permits, go visit the conservatories within and see the exotic plants from all around the globe. In the evenings, the Supertrees will light up and pulse to the music, so do stay and be mesmerised by the sights and sounds of the themed shows - they only happen twice a day, so check the schedules before you go!

10. Cycle under the Helix Bridge and turn left to cycle along the promenade. Along the promenade, the laser and ⛲️water fountain show (Spectra Light & Water course) happens twice a night, so do check it out if you’re in the area.

11. 🚴‍♀️Cycle around the bay to see the sights, or you could choose to cycle across Benjamin Sheares Bridge across to Esplanade by the Bay. In the day, you can visit the rooftop garden to see a view of the city.

12. 🎡From Esplanade, cycle back under the helix bridge to return your bicycle at Singapore Flyer. If you are on a bike sharing programme, please park your bike at the right spot so you do not risk paying a hefty fine.

13. Should you choose to, you can continue your cycle along Beach Road to Golden Mile Complex, where you can enjoy an authentic Thai dinner at Nana Thai. Alternatively, take the MRT for one stop to Nicoll Highway and walk over to Golden Mile. You can end the trip here!
