We spent about 2.5 days in Salzburg, and to maximise our 🤑 money 🤑 we decided to get the 48 hours Salzburg Card!

The Salzburg Card offers:

• One-time free admission to all city attractions and museums

• Free travel on public transportation except S-Bahn and s-railways

• Discounts on cultural events and concerts, and at excursion destinations

💰:

1. 24 hours: €28

2. 48 hours: €36 (we got this!)

3. 72 hours: €41

Where we went with the Salzburg Card:

1. Fortress Hohensalzburg, the biggest fully preserved castle in Central Europe! We took the Fortress Funicular up as the fortress sits atop the Festungsberg mountain. Stunning views of Salzburg's skyline from the fortress! There are also a couple of museums within the fortress - we only visited the Fortress Museum, which was the main one.

💰: €14.50 (basic ticket + furnicular)

With Salzburg Card: Free!

2. St. Peter's Abbey, which was founded in the 7th century and is the oldest monastery still in existence in the German-speaking world. We visited the abbey itself, the cemetery (also the film site of The Sound of Music), catacombs, and the bakery (the oldest in Salzburg!). ⛪️

💰: €2 (catacombs only, rest are free)

With Salzburg Card: Free!

3. Salzburg Cathedral - Salzburg's centrepiece! Stunning Early Baroque architecture!

💰: €5

With Salzburg Card: €3.50

4. Mozart's Birthplace + Mozart's Residence. Mozart was born in Salzburg in 1756, so it made sense for us to visit both his residence and birthplace when in Salzburg! Both places are little museums documenting his and his family's lives. 🎼

💰: €20 for a combined ticket for both places, or €13.50 each

With Salzburg Card: Free!

5. Hellbrunn Palace was one of the more interesting palaces we visited due to their trick fountains! The palace was lovely, but the highlight was the palace gardens with hidden water jets that go off at the most unanticipated times! Really a unique experience.

💰: €15

With Salzburg Card: Free!

6. Untersberg - our absolute favourite! We took the Untersbergbahn (cable car) up the mountain (1,776m), and damn the view was stunning! ⛰️ There was a little hike on top of the mountain itself, which we did and were rewarded with stunning views of rolling hills! 🥹 The opening and closing scenes of The Sound of Music were filmed here!

💰: €32 for Untersbergbahn

With Salzburg Card: Free!

Without the Salzburg Card, we would have paid €88.50 for all the attractions (and maybe €5 for the bus). Instead, we paid €36 + €3.50 = €39.50, which we thought was a steal!

Would highly recommend getting the 48/72 hours Salzburg Card, especially if you are planning to visit Untersberg. In my opinion the 24 hours Salzburg Card might not be as worth it if you're just planning to stay in the city but this depends on how many places you can hit within 24 hours. Please do your own math!

We also visited Innsbruck, Hallstatt and Bavaria as part of our Austria-Germany trip!
