Hi Lemon8 friends! 🍋👋🏻 i’m sure you all have heard of the juicy news between the two famous Katong banana pies - Dona Manis and Auntie Peng 🍌. Curious to see whose banana pie tasted better, I made a trip down to purchase both to compare and decide on my ultimate pick. So… which pie fared better? Here’s my review:

Auntie Peng:

💰 $3.30/slice

👅 The pie’s crust was flaky, pastry-like and crunchy. I could taste the crushed almonds and shredded coconut well, and the banana filling was sweet and moist. Overall, I felt that I could taste the distinct layers and flavours well.

Dona Manis:

💰 $3.50/slice

👅 The crushed almonds on the pie’s crust was chopped bigger, which lent a more prominent taste along with the shredded coconut. They were really generous with both as well. The banana filling was also really packed, with bigger chunks of moist banana.

💭 Overall Thoughts:

Between the two, I preferred Auntie Peng’s! In terms of appearance, it was noticeable that Dona Manis’s pie looked much more voluminous as opposed to Auntie Peng’s flatter pie. Both pies were generally really crumbly, so you do have to eat them carefully!

Price-wise, Auntie Peng’s was slightly cheaper at $3.30/slice, as compared to Dona Manis’s $3.50/slice.

For Auntie Peng’s, I felt that it tasted like a good mix between a pastry and pie (personally really love pastries), and the consistency and texture felt more balanced to me 😋. The flavours and textures all complemented really well, making it an awesomely satisfying banana pie. Dona Manis on the other hand, evidently did not scrimp on their ingredients, though overall I felt it tasted way too moist for me. I could not taste the distinct layers well, and it was like a wet, mushy sweet dessert 😅.

In conclusion, my crowned winner is Auntie Peng! 👑 🍌 if you have tried both, which one do
