try something new by going to thrift in korea!

did you know that Seoul has plenty of vintage stores and less of thrift stores? i’m here to tell you what’s the difference and to recommend you some locations to shop at!

thrift stores: thrift stores sell their secondhand items at low prices for the lower income demographic. however, thrift stores don’t usually look through all their items for defects, so what you see is what you get.

vintage stores: they sell a curated collection of ‘valuable’ items, usually of higher quality, which also means higher prices. some vintage stores will even wash the clothing pieces before putting them out for sale.

🛍️ DONGMYO FLEA MARKET

this was one of my favourite places that i went during my trip. though i only ended up buying one jade ring, i spent 2 hours just walking around and checking out the eclectic items displayed (think: second-hand clothes, accessories, antiques, vinyl records and other miscellaneous goods).

the clothing pieces were piled up high and many people were just squatting and sifting through. i would’ve joined them i wasn’t with my family HAHA

🛍️ SELF-SERVICE VINTAGE SHOP

when we were strolling at hongdae, we came across a few vintage stores and we were intrigued by this particular one because the shop was bright yellow. there are two levels to the shop, and it was pretty small but i managed to find a vintage Guess top with embellishments for 20,000₩!!

the shop sells vintage Christian Dior, Ralph Lauren, Miu Miu, Coach, and streetwear brands like Carhartt and North Face. as it is currently winter in Korea, most of the apparel being sold is for the cold weather. there is no staff there since it is a self-service thrift shop but there are cctvs in the shop.
