In my opinion…yes and no, and here’s why.

About a month ago I stopped tracking my nutrition fully. It was probably one of the best decisions that I’ve made and has really allowed me to learn how to trust myself with nutrition.

That being said, I wanted to continue my fatloss journey, so I thought I would try intermittent fasting.

For me, intermittent fasting looks like eating between 12pm to 8pm and then refraining for 16. During those 8 hours I am eating generally whatever I want (focusing on high protein and whole foods), and listening to my hunger cues (stopping when I’m about 80% full). However, there’s SO MANY WAYS to do it, and you definitely don’t have to go so intense with it to start.

So far, I’ve seen amazing results. However, the reason I say that it “doesn’t work” is because it’s not the fasting that’s making me lose fat, it’s the fact that I’m in a CALORIE DEFICIT. Meaning, I’m eating less calories than what my body is burning since I’m shortening the window that I eat. However I’ve been in a calorie deficit before when I was tracking. So really, it’s not much different.

My problem right after I stopped tracking was that I was binging at night (therefore putting me at or above maintenance). Intermittent fasting is more of just a mental cue for me to not let that happen because I have freedom throughout the day to eat whatever I want. Aside from that, my digestion has been WAY BETTER since I’m not eating right before bed.

Overall, I think it s great alternative for those who don’t want to track their nutrition but still want to make fat loss progress!
