If you're new to Search Engine Marketing (SEM for short - Google Keywords!!), it's understandable if you find it a bit overwhelming. Digital advertising is vast and intricate, and it takes time to become proficient. However, there are a few Excel formulas that can make things simpler when you’re working on SEM projects!.

At first, I tried to avoid using them at all costs but it became apparent that this wasn't going to be possible if I wanted to finish my task quickly. So one day, after feeling frustrated with how little progress I was making with these formulas, I decided it was time for me to start my excel conquest and learn the tips and tricks from YouTube, eventually creating a seamless workflow that is now an everyday task that I do!!

Using Excel isn't a must for succeeding in paid search, but some of its features can help streamline your workflow and making more efficient. That's why it’s one of the most important skill you need to have as a Digital Marketer!

𝟏. =𝙋𝙍𝙊𝙋𝙀𝙍() ; 𝘾𝙖𝙥𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙯𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙮.

You can save time in Excel by using the =PROPER formula? It's super handy for capitalizing text automatically, so you don't have to do it manually. Just type =proper(cell number) and watch your sentence transform into a perfectly capitalized block of text.

𝟮. =𝗟𝗘𝗡() ; 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀

When it comes to text ads, there are usually limits on how many characters you can use. For instance, with Google ETAs, you can add up to three headlines, each limited to 30 characters, along with two descriptions of up to 90 characters.

The LEN function (which you input as =LEN() is one of the most important formula that counts the characters in a selected cell. This makes it much simpler to stay within those limits and make the most of the available characters. This also works for Lemon8 title content if you’re planning things out! Lemon8’s titles are only 50 characters long - so I usually use this to plan out my content as well!

𝟯. =𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗠() ; 𝗧𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀

The =TRIM function does exactly what the name suggests - it removes any extra spaces in a cell. This is a handy trick when you're editing in bulk, especially if you're writing PPC text ads and need to stay within the character limits. It's super helpful if you’re checking through HUNDREDS of keywords.
