shoes: your next outfit's make or break? 👀

since i've been going out more often these days for school, i realised (first-handedly) that wearing the wrong shoes can easily make or break your outfit ((totally not because i wore the wrong shoes and felt like a bit of a clown for the rest of the day 🤡)) so here i am sharing some tips on how you can easily match your shoes with your fit - starting from converse high tops! 👟

before i started wearing these converse highs, i was always quite concerned about how they may make my legs look shorter (since i'm not a tall human bean 😩) but i realised that it really isn't the case! tucking the edges of your pants into the top of the high tops can help to cinch and elongate your leg line if done with the right colours, but otherwise you can also let the pants fall - even if the high cut can't be seen, it's quite cute when you move and it peeks out 👀

01 — basics first 🤟

👟: Chuck 70 Parchment

these are the OGs of the OGs haha and it was the first pair of converse highs that i received when i joined the converse all stars programme early last year. i immediately loved the off-white, beige colour that it had which gave off a more cohesive and sturdy type of vibe for some reason. it's also really comfortable toi wear on a daily basis since it has cushioning for your heels, so generally when i want a comfortable fit when heading to school our simply going out - this is my go-to since its so versatile and can go with literally any fit - whether you're thinking casual, or even smart casual.

here, i've paired it with neutrals with the grey muji labo polo tee, simple black dress pants - while adding my (largest) ((in size)) statement piece in my wardrobe which is a two-tone denim jacket i thrifted from toa payoh for just $10!

02 — pop of colour 🟢

👟: Chuck Taylor All Star 70 Court Green

these shoes honestly mean so much to me since i received a pair with my instagram handle engraved on it which is so cute 😫 i was initially quite stumped as to how to style it since the green was much brighter than what i was used to — but i later figured it'd be a nice fit with any all-black fit as a pop of colour! i also style it with fits that have vague hints of green hues, for instance the top shown in the cover image 🌱i do think that it's worth getting a pair of bright shoes rather than sticking with neutrals since it makes you explore more and be more creative with your fits!

03 — werk and slay 💃

👟: Chuck Taylor All Star CX Black

i got this pair and the matching set featured in the image during a dance and movement related campaign with converse when we launched a new line of CX products — which pride themselves on flexibility, being lightweight and being simply comfortable af 😤 and having danced in these shoes a couple of times now for practices and classes, i really do stand by the promise 😫 since it comes with a pop of orange with its sole lining, i styled it (again) with an all-black fit, especially since it has quite a lot of colours going on with the white shoelaces as well. but i can see it being another exploratory piece to be paired with oranges or complementary colours if i swap the laces out for a black pair!

with that, here's how i worked around wearing high tops after avoiding them for years — and hopefully this encourages you to do the same if you were hesitant about them before! they really do add an interesting edge to your daily fits ⭐
