When I was a beginner at the gym, I wish I had known these things:

1. The quality of your reps matters more than the quantity.

- Reps that feel “easy” don’t really do anything to help you build muscle

- The reps that actually build muscle are the few very hard ones just before you hit failure --> these are called “effective reps”

2. Tracking your weights can be very helpful

- Writing down the weights, reps, and sets you do for each exercise allows you to know what you need to “beat” at your next workout

- This helps you make sure you’re always doing more than last time

- There are apps you can use for this, or you can even do it in the Notes app on your phone!

3. There is no exercise or workout you “have” to do

- If you don’t enjoy an exercise and it makes you not want to work out, you don’t have to do it

- There are always alternative exercises you can do. If you don’t enjoy something, it will be very hard to stay consistent

- For example, if you don't like doing squats, you can do leg press instead!
