Why I Don’t Cash Budget

So I’ve been seeing a lot of things lately about how cash budgeting has gotten people out of mass amounts of debt, gotten people back on track with their finances, and has done incredible things to grow equity for people. I wish that’s what happened to me. I was a cash budget girlie for almost 2 years, but what happened? Why did I stop? What didn’t work for me?

✨Pay Cycle-

Since I’m paid Bi-Weekly it’s a little bit more difficult to make sure that I’m withdrawing the cash to stuff and redepositing it before the bill is paid.

✨Pulling Cash- Due to my work schedule getting to the bank is hard and getting cash from the grocery store is a nightmare. Some bills would just get paid when they came up, no matter how hard I try to make sure they’re budgeted for in cash first.

✨Unhealthy habits- While being a cash budget girlie helped me to reduce my impulsive spending habits it made me create new, unhealthy habits to save money so I could have a bigger spending budget at the end of the month. I cut my grocery and food budget down to $30/month which in turn meant not eating as much or drinking as much water. This was definitely not good for my mental health as I obsessed over it more and more I completely cut out anything not going towards saving in a way that was impulsive. So I switched one impulsive action for another.

✨Would I try it again? - I think I could be persuaded to use my cash envelopes again in some way. Since I am a tipped employee I definitely wouldn’t mind using this to budget out my weekly tips into sinking funds so that those don’t have to come from my paycheck.
