How do I juggle a 10-7 job and a part-time degree with lessons 3 times a week, on top of that do some content creation and side jobs? 👀

For context, I'm a full time uiux designer and a Digital media student - we learn everyth about the media - programming,

c++, design, video creation and content creation.

TBH, I'm struggling, I take it step by step and plan early instead of letting every thing fall at the last minute. I don't have much problems with my full-time job because its already what I'm used to doing...

HowEver, I struggle alot with school.. lots of Cs last sem ;-; Its super difficult and it feels like I went back to taking OLevels. To me I'm just aiming for a pass for my degree >< and honestly at this point the degree is just a paper to me.

My thoughts on starting a part-time degree 📚

IF you have your own ideas and a very clear career plan that you wanna go on that could go without a degree, don't take a degree - its a waste of time. That money could be invested into your business idea, skills that you want to nurture and anything else that could add value to your life. I think a degree is super overrated too, at this stage right now I'm not sure if I wanna stick to a corporate job for the next 50 years of my life - seems pretty stagnant :/ BUT since I'm already 1.5years into it I have to finish this shit 🥲 2.5years to go.

So far the most useful thing I learnt from my degree is probably just blender :( Math subjects were pretty useless because I forget everything after the module.

How I manage my time 🫥

My job has an OTOT kind of work culture so whenever I am done for the week, we get to do our own things. Also, we do have a pretty balanced work culture, hence after work hours are usually untouched. I make sure my day job timing is solely reserved for it and I mostly plan my time for studies around after work and the weekends. 10-7 work and then 7-10pm + weekends are my study sessions.

Tips for a part time degree 🫠

1. Plan ahead

- I use notion and my calendar ALOT

- To-do lists for the week are my best friends

- I mark down all the deadlines for my assignments and exam dates.

- I also plan how much time I have to study before the exam.

- I try to finish my assignments 1 week early so I have time to study more.

2. Make sure you know what you are getting into

- I truely did not know how hard it would get ;-; but i was always good at time management so I thought just give it a shot.

3. Be smart about which tasks is more worth it - prioritise

- Some modules are gonna take up a whole lot of time or just way too difficult ;-; just do enough, pass it and spend more time on the ones that you are sure about scoring.

4. Consistency is your bestfriend

- Any effort put into reading lecture notes and re-listening to lectures plays a part in improving my understanding of the subject.

- Get into the habit of doing something after work everyday instead of pushing everything into the last few weeks.

Lastly.. Its okay to rest, if nothing is going in because you are tired its just not gonna work out. Taking a part time degree is like running a marathon not a sprint 🫡

What abOut LIFE and FrIeNds?! 🫠

I still go out once a week and do yoga every week, if not I might go crazy. Take care of your mind too, set aside time to relax even if its just a few hours on the weekends before continuing!
