A classic family recipe I’ve been making for years! 🤍 here’s how I make my spaghetti bolognese

Recipe (serves 4)

• 4 servings of pasta (I like whole wheat spaghetti)

• Big drizzle of extra virgin olive oil

• 1 large yellow onion, finely chopped

• 2-3 garlic cloves, finely chopped (or 2 tsp crushed garlic)

• 2 teaspoons dried basil

• 2 teaspoons dried thyme

• 1 punnet lean mince/ ground beef

• 1 can of crushed tomatoes

• 2 tbsp tomato paste

• 2 cups pasta water

• Salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

1. Cook pasta according to package instructions. Before draining, reserve 2 cups of pasta water. Set aside.

2. On a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion, garlic, spices and salt. Sauté for 5-7 minutes.

3. Add the ground beef, and using a fork, break up the mince into smaller pieces. Allow the mince to cook until it turns golden.

4. At this point, add in canned tomatoes and tomato paste. Allow to simmer for 10 minutes.

5. Add the pasta water. Turn the heat to low and allow to mince to simmer for 15-20 minutes until the sauce reduces and thickens. If it gets too thick, add more pasta water.

6. Once the pasta sauce is ready, add the pasta and mix through well.

7. Serve with parmesan (optional) and enjoy!
