Is the steam deck worth it?

So my husband is wanting to get me a steam deck for Christmas this year. I do have my switch, (I bought it almost three years ago when we first started dating) and I don’t think I’ll stray from playing it. Is there anyone that owns a steam deck that can give me any sort of advice when it comes to the console (what storage I go for 512Gb or 1TB? Does it require a monthly/ yearly subscription to play online/with friends like Nintendo. If so how much, per year/ month?). What games do you play on this console and do you find it better than the switch?

Idk, I don’t like to stray when it comes to consoles. I’ve had a PS4 for years that I haven’t touched because I’m so used to just grabbing for my switch.
