Signs Of Depression

I have struggled with depression since I was a little girl. Back then, I didn’t know what it was.

While I’m in it, everything does seem and feel hopeless. But learning my triggers, and understanding the signs, empowers me to take action. Instead of sitting in despair, I have become intentional about shifting my behavior to shift my mood.

This looks like praying, exercising, watching a podcast, listening to music, reading, taking a walk, or journaling.

It also helps my loved ones. When they know the signs, they are prepared to step in and support me. And community is so important because one of the signs of depression is social isolation. I become withdrawn and it’s difficult to let people in.

But because I’ve built a community, I have trusted people by my side who know how to encourage me during this time. Sometimes it’s just a text that says “I got you,” or “I love you.”

Maybe it’s dropping off a healthy meal with no expectation of conversation.

So, know the signs. It could save a life.
