A level season is over π anyways iβll try to get to the point! Just some context, i used to struggle even passing my A Lvl subjects, ESPECIALLY BIO (straight U from J1 till J2 MYEβ¦)
However, in the months leading to A levels, Iβve been adjusting my study methods and I do find myself getting more motivated to study π₯³ Truth be told..i miraculously PASSED BIO for the first time ever in prelims, and i jumped 40rp compared to J2 Myes π While my prelim rp is definitely not up to standard for Uni, Iβve find myself becoming more determined to do even better! ( and ofc, eventually managed to score better than expected for As!) These 7 tips kinda summarises the changes iβve made to my studying habits : ) πͺ
βββββββββββββββββββββββββββ
1) Change your study locations! π
iβve always had this assumption that having a fixed study location will help your mind stay focused, and I guess this does apply for many! However, if you find yourself losing focus and getting less motivated to study, you might wanna try changing your study locations or simply just study outside in cafes where youβre surrounded by other people who are studying! ( positive peer pressure π )
2) Romanticize studying π§ββοΈβοΈ
if i find my mind drifting/dozing off..i just imagine myself in a movie/i whip out my phone and timelapse myself π (& delete them after cos im not cut out for the vlogger life ππ) maybe iβm just a weird person but this helps me get back on track : D
there was this one time where a stranger gave me this note (2nd pic) π strangely it really motivated me to study moreβ¦(i studied 4 hours straight after reading that note ππππ)
3) Find a new hobby π΄ββοΈ
As i used to be super active in my CCA, i guess part of my mental wellbeing detoriated due to the sudden shift in lifestyle (sitting on a chair all day is sooooooo baddd) I decided to try spinning because i was pretty intrigued by the idea of jamming to songs and sweating the heck out after a longgg day of mugging π₯² In general, itβs good to have a good sweat esp aft sitting for long hours! (helps to regulate your mind + sleep better π΄)
4) DRAG A RELIABLE FRIEND π―ββοΈ
I usually prefer to study alone as iβll get less distracted, but sometimesβ¦ I just need that company to supervise me π This is especially useful when I plan to study the whole day (ie. have to wake up early -> im practically forced to wake up and be on time since my friend would be waiting for me!)
5) Provide Incentives! π€©
If I managed to accomplish my (ambitious) to-do-list for the day, Iβll reward myself with β¨expensive matchaβ¨ or recently..popmarts π (i used to hate them but my friendsβ¦ they have unfortunately influenced me π )
6) Maybe youβve been studying wrong? π ββοΈ
Because that was me π I used to just mug content all the way because I really wanted to solidify my foundation, especially since I was aiming for a pass! Man that was really my biggest downfall.. It is SO IMPORTANT (alongside building foundation) to do your practice papers (this applies to all subjects!). You may also want to ask your friends how theyβve studied for a particular subject and try out new study methods to see if it better works for you, beacuse itβs really very subjective!
7) Book a consult to force yourself to study!
Yup. I realised I tend to dread studying certain subjects like Econs π or GP cos i always feel like iβm wasting timeβ¦ so what i did was just book a consult, and then panic 2 days before the consult, and then start mugging the subject in detail to actively search for questions to ask. This tip really, really, really helped me spot my learning gaps in a very stressful but effective manner π
