a day trip to montserrat! 😳💚🚞🏞️

if you plan to visit barcelona, you have to add montserrat into your itinerary 🤩🤩🤩

montserrat is (in short) a monk mountain surrounded by peaks and unobstructed views of mountains and the oh so blue sky 💙 it is a short journey out from barcelona and is easily accessible by public transport. trust me when i say montserrat is BREATHTAKING 😳😳

getting to montserrat (~1.5hrs) 🚃:

1. take the metro line L3 to pl. espanya

2. purchase the combined tickets at pl. espanya for the train+funicular (~30euro/pax)

3. take the train from pl. espanya to monistrol de monserrat

4. take the funicular to montserrat

at montserrat (~2-3hrs) ⛰️:

- visit the monastery! take the time to admire the interior, the ceiling and just take in the grandeur of it all

- taste the figs and cheese that are sold by local vendors

- hike up to the peak of the mountain where the cross is located! you can expect a 20-25min hike with low difficulty. the roads are even and easy to walk on 👍🏻

- explore the area! there isnt many landmarks per se, but the atmosphere is so peaceful and at every turn you get to see the view of the mountains and villages

overall, it was a very refreshing experience! taking the day away from the city was invigorating and i highly recommend it! it is relatively affordable & great for a slow travel day 😬🫶🏻🫶🏻
